One of the most powerful outcomes of PHIC’s Adolescent & Youth Health Camps has been the young people who go on to lead beyond the health topics they were trained on. Health Champions built through PHIC’s programme are now translating climate-health knowledge into direct community action, leading tree planting and eco-friendly charcoal briquette training to protect the environment and improve household health.
On 14 July 2026, youth trained on climate action at a PHIC Adolescent & Youth Health Camp formed a local climate action group and led a tree-planting activity with the community in Kyengeza Parish, Masulita Sub-county, Wakiso District. These also went on to train community members in eco-friendly briquette-making, a skill they themselves gained during PHIC’s climate-health training in April 2026, turning awareness into practical household change.
This is what PHIC calls its Health Champions network in action: adolescents and young people who started as camp participants are now advocates, carrying accurate SRH information, and now climate action, further into their own schools and communities than PHIC’s staff could reach alone.
