In collaboration with the Officer of the District Health Officer and the Incharges of health facilities in Wakiso, PHIC conducted a training of 9 health peers from the partnering health facilities of Wakiso district which saw 6 Health Centre III and 3 Health Centre IV in Wakiso as the initial beneficiaries of this initiative. These trainings which will be ongoing to benefit other health facilities aim to enhance knowledge and share best practices with Health workers to supplement their training so that they can ably deliver SRH in their respective Health facilities.
This is intended to enhance access to Information and services for both in-school and out of school young people in Wakiso district.
The comprehensive two-day training session for Health Peers covered various aspects of SRHR including Reproductive Anatomy, body changes, contraception, post abortion care, HIV & STIs assessment diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
We also discussed and share different harmful cultural practices, myths and misconceptions of the communities about SRHR information and Services and how to tackle misinformation to enhance access.
During this session we have been able to establish strategic partnership with the health works from different public health facilities and position them as the focal persons for SRH at their respective health centers. It has given chance to PHIC to learn the social norms, myths and cultural practices that affect SRHR and made efforts to address them. These will be contact persons for PHIC during SRHR activities at the health facilities and the catchment areas.
