Good policies only reach young people if the health workers in front of them are ready to deliver adolescent-responsive care. PHIC invests directly in that readiness, through joint training, facility mentorship, and support supervision that strengthens both the skills of individual health workers and the systems around them.
In partnership with the National Midwives Association of Uganda (NMAU), the Ministry of Health, and CEHURD, PHIC delivered a joint SRHR capacity-building training for midwives from Central Uganda in October 2025, covering adolescent-responsive SRH information and services, family planning, and post-abortion care. A similar training reached health workers gathered at City Royal Hotel, Bugolobi, in April 2024.
That training is reinforced on the job. PHIC’s expert mentors have carried out onsite mentorship and support supervision visits at 20 public health facilities, where health workers demonstrate procedures such as post-abortion care to their peers and deliver family planning counselling to adolescents following PHIC mentorship. PHIC working with expert mentors from Ministry of Health Uganda and Wakiso District Local Government, equipped health providers with right knowledge and skills to deliver Adolescent-Responsive Sexual and Reproductive Health services and information. The teams from the MoH and facility based teams agreed on concrete, facility-specific action points for strengthening the delivery of adolescent and youth SRH services.
