On 11th September 2026, Partners for Healthy Individuals and Communities (PHIC) joined the Wakiso District Annual Health Assembly, themed “Collaborative Accountability and Collective Resilience in Delivering Quality Health Care for Wakiso District.” The Assembly brought together Civil Society Organizations, health facility in-charges, district leaders, and Ministry of Health officials to reflect on progress across the district’s health system and recommit to stronger, more accountable health care for the people of Wakiso.
During the Assembly, PHIC shared an overview of its work and impact in the district, and was honored to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Wakiso District Local Government for its “Outstanding Contribution Towards Health Systems Strengthening in Wakiso District, Uganda.”
PHIC used the platform to speak to one of the district’s toughest health challenges: roughly one in four girls in Wakiso becomes pregnant before the age of 19. It is a statistic that has shaped PHIC’s programming since its founding, and one the organization continues to work against through community-rooted, youth-centered interventions.
At PHIC, the strongest resolve has always been creating equitable health for all, regardless of background. The organization’s journey over four years has been one of continuous learning and of building the strategic partnerships that make its work possible. PHIC is especially grateful to Wakiso District Local Government, the first district to host its work, and to Hivos, its earliest supporters, whose backing helped bring this work to life.
This recognition stands as proof that community-rooted, government-backed programming works, and as a testament to PHIC’s Bio-Structural-Social-Advocacy model — a model that addresses the biomedical, structural, and social drivers of poor health outcomes together, while building the next generation of young health advocates. PHIC remains committed to the partnerships that make this work sustainable, and pledges to keep working, together with district and national partners, to improve health outcomes for people in Uganda and beyond.
